Bratton Womens Institute
Bratton WI is part of the Wiltshire Federation of WIs, and consequently the National Federation of WIs - the largest country wide organisation of women in the UK - giving women educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.
Recent campaigns have included support for farmers over fair milk prices; ending violence against women; reduction of waste in the home and in manufacture of goods and food.
Membership is open to all women over 16. It costs (at Oct 2008) £29.00 p.a. For which a member receives a full monthly programme of interesting talks and outings, opportunities to attend day courses at Denman College near Oxford, county newsletter and national magazine, WI Life, monthly.
We meet at 7.30pm (new time) at the Church Institute, Tynings Lane on the first Wednesday of the month except January, July and August when we meet elsewhere. The current programme is displayed on the Jubilee Hall notice board.
Our activities now include:
- 'Scottish Reel Dancing' re-starting on Wednesday September 16th in Jubilee Hall at 2.30 - 4.00 pm (will be monthly depending on demand).
- A 'Book Group' meets every 6 weeks in members' houses.
We also support the life of the village by joining in with church and village fetes, catering for special occasions, and listening to children read at the local primary school. We have provided 4 comfortable upright chairs with arms for the elderly and less mobile members of the community for use at the Church Institute.
