News From Your Wiltshire Councillor: Jerry Wickham
Last Thursday 16th March the cloak of purdah came down on us in the Council since we now move into the lead up to the elections for Wiltshire Council on May 4th.
I wanted to however go back over our achievements over the last few years. Elections to Wiltshire Council were in May 2013 but I wasn’t elected as your councillor until March 2014. This followed the sad and untimely death of Linda Conley the previously elected representative. I sincerely believe that in the ensuing years I have made a difference to the lives of people in Bratton since my aim has always been to promptly address local problems.
I have always ensured that the villages in my area get their fair share of the assets available. Under the Westbury Area Board, all too often in the past, its workings have been very Westbury centric. I have therefore endeavoured to work hard for the rural communities. The village of Bratton has greatly benefitted from a number of community grants from the Area Board which I have been pleased to both assist with and support. This has included work on the Jubilee Hall, the Pavilion, the Recreation Ground, the Church Institute and the Monday Gang amongst others. In addition, despite contrary views within the highways team in the council, I was determined to get the B3098 brought forward in the resurfacing programme and this was achieved.
As 4th May approaches, I believe there will be other candidates wanting to be your local representative but I hope you will all consider the legacy I have created for Bratton and the surrounding area.
